Beppu

Beppu is a hot springs resort and was our first stop in Kyushu. They are famous for their many onsen bathes and the Hells which are hot springs that come up from the ground in various colors and are supposed to remind you of Hell (and in the heat and umidity, they certainly did!). There are eight in total and we went to them all! Then we headed to the sand bathes where you put on a robe and are covered in hot sand and then left to sit there for 10 minutes. It is supposed to be relaxing and I think Fiona enjoyed it but to me it felt a little bit like being buried alive and then baked in an oven for 10 minutes... I don't think I would go back.



If you fall into the water, you will boil!
