Subway Series

On Sunday Matt and I went to a Yankees Mets game with my friend, Yasmine, and her boyfriend, James. Although the Yankees did not win, we still had fun. (I am just in it for the hot dogs anyway.)

Damon is my favorite. Since he used to be a Red Sock, I feel like I am sticking to my roots :)

Out in New York City!

Between going to Nicole's wedding, home for Father's Day and up to Boston, I have actually not yet spent a weekend in New York. On Saturday night, Matt and I went to a great Japanese dinner at a restaurant called Hagi near Times Square with Chris and his girlfriend, Liz. Afterwards, we met up with Juliet and her sister, Katherine.

Work

I am in the middle of my fourth week at the New York Supreme Court. I am interning with a judge in the commercial division. There are 11 of us interns and we observe court for about half of the time and write memos about the various cases that have come up the other half of the time. I am really enjoying the work so far. It is interesting to work with the other 10 interns since they all go to the New York law schools and all of those programs are very different from Northeastern's program. Working in the commercial division has its positives and negatives. The cases are big and high profile almost always involving a company that I know (AIG, Louis Vuitton, Christy's, etc). They always involve large sums of money which can be impressive in many ways- both because the amounts are sometimes more than I will ever see in a lifetime and also because the judge is always encouraging parties to settle when the amount is less than 200K or so. ("Come on guys! It's only $180,000!") I have also had the opportunity to sit in on some other court proceedings. Today I took a little field trip to the Bronx Family Court to observe a child custody case.

The Waterfalls
"Four giant waterfalls will be erected in New York for three months this summer in a public art project city officials hope will create $55 million in extra tourism revenue for the Big Apple.
The waterfalls, including one that will fall from the famed Brooklyn Bridge, are the brainchild of Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. Installation will cost $15 million, funded by private donations to New York's Public Art Fund."

Recents!

Well, there seems to have been a run on storks recently because I have become the proud friend of many new babies! My friends in Japan, Pam and Heath, had their baby, Zion, last month. My old family friend Shannon and her husband, Mike, welcomed their baby girl last week. My cousin David and his wife Ruth also had a baby girl named Lily. All babies are healthy and cute as can be!

Matt and Me, definitely no baby. Just a nice, recent photo taken on Matt's cellphone!

Nicole's wedding on Long Island

This weekend I was off to Long Island for Nicole's wedding. She was marrying her boyfriend of millions of years, Nick (yes, Nick and Nicole- they were clearly made for each other). They have been together since high school! The ceremony was lovely and then the reception was a lot of fun!

American Museum of Natural History

Today I went to the AMNH, mostly to see the jewels, but also because it came highly recommended by my guidebook and some friends.

In the afternoon, I wandered around Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo and then walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Yesterday I visited the BBG which is free on Tuesdays! It was absolutely gorgeous. Really, it was one of the nicest places that I have ever been. I would highly recommend it to any person visiting NYC.

A little of Japan right here in New York!
